1. Check the Input Device’s Source Selection
Even if the receiver has established a secure physical connection with your receiver, you must also specify it as your TV or computer’s default audio output device.
Hence, the first step is to verify that your input device has chosen the Yamaha receiver as the system’s output device.
1.1 How to Change Default Audio Output On TV?
Follow these steps to change the default audio output on most TVs:
- Go to “Settings” using the TV’s remote control.
- Access the “Sound” or “Audio” tab on the page.
- Search for “Default Audio” or “Default Output.”
- Find the Yamaha AV receiver in the devices list.
- Highlight the receiver’s tile and then press “OK.”
- Save the changes to the audio settings and exit.

1.2 How to Change Default Audio Output On PC?
- If you’re on Windows, navigate to “Control Panel” → “Sound” → “Yamaha Receiver” → “Set Default.”

2. Use a Different HDMI OUT on Yamaha
One of the possible reasons why the Yamaha AV receiver HDMI out not working is because of faulty HDMI ports.
Most of the Yamaha receivers have a minimum of two HDMI outputs, but they could also be three or four, based on the model.

2.1 How to Tell How Many HDMI OUTs a Yamaha Have?
The HDMI outputs are typically located on the rear panel of the Yamaha receiver, so anywhere near the A/C input.
All of the receiver’s HDMI outputs are next to each other, so keep searching until you find the inputs.
2.2 How to Identify HDMI Outputs on Yamaha Receiver?
Once you’ve found the outputs on your receiver, locate the small label right above each of the connectors.
One of the outputs will probably say “ZONE OUT,” whilst the other regular ones will simply have “HDMI 1,” “HDMI 2” or “HDMI 3” above them.

It takes less than a minute for all of the receiver’s residue power to drain, which by itself results in a reboot of the system.
Follow these simple steps to power reset the Yamaha AV receiver:
- Locate the “Power” button on the Yamaha unit’s front panel.
- Now, press and hold the button for a minimum of 5 seconds.
- Wait for the display to go blank and for the device to power off.
- Disconnect the power adapter cable from the back of the unit.
- Unplug the other end of the receiver’s cable from the A/C outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds until the unit discharges and plug it back in.
Tip: Inspect the receiver power cable’s physical condition while unplugged.
4. Replace the Receiver’s HDMI Cable
So, a defective HDMI cable is the leading reason why the Yamaha receiver HDMI output not working.
Therefore, connecting a cable with loose ports or one that doesn’t reliably transfer the audio/video signal of the receiver will result in consistent functionality issues.

How to Identify a Faulty HDMI Cable?
While a physical inspection is one of the simplest ways to tell if an HDMI cable is faulty, you could also test it on another audio/video device.
You must ensure that both the video and audio transfers are uninterrupted to know for certain whether the HDMI cable works or not.
So, if possible, connect the HDMI cable with a different device that also uses HDMI inputs and outputs, then test the signal broadcast.
Well, if the cable appears to experience interruptions or refuses to work with your backup device, use a different HDMI for your Yamaha AV receiver.
5. Test the Yamaha On Another Device
It is also possible that the external TV or computer you’re connecting with the Yamaha receiver is not functioning as intended.
A fault with the interface, system, or firmware could be a potential reason why the HDMI outputs on your receiver are not receiving a responding signal.
- We recommend testing on a proven device, such as an alternative TV or your PC, as long as the motherboard or GPU has an HDMI input.
To test, press the “Setup” or “Settings” button on the remote to bring up the AV receiver menu and check if the broadcast is interrupted.
6. Restore the Receiver to Factory Default
If your Yamaha receiver’s issue is system-related, a factory reset could be an excellent solution for problems with the HDMI output.
As a result of the restoration, all of your receiver’s settings and system preferences will be restored to default values, which will hopefully fix the problem.
Follow these steps to factory reset the Yamaha AV receiver:
- Wait for 10–15 minutes until the unit enters the Standby mode.
- Hold the “Straight” and “Power” buttons on the Yamaha device.

- Use a flathead or a Phillips screwdriver based on the screw’s type.
- Next, gently pull out the outer casing of your Yamaha receiver away.
- Now, find where the internal weldings of the HDMI ports are inside.
- Locate the HDMI board, which should be close to the HDMI port spot.
- Use a multimeter to test the power delivery to the unit’s HDMI board.
- Then, follow the C wire of the HDMI board that connects with the MCB.
- Check if the C wire is securely welded with the main board’s capacitors.
- To test with a multimeter, touch the positive or negative pole with the A/C input of the HDMI board and the remaining pole with the PCB itself.
