Sonos Beam Not Connecting to WiFi – Quick & Easy Fixes!

Before you Start: Have you tried rebooting your Sonos Beam and Sonos app device?

1. Factory Reset Your Sonos Beam

factory reset your sonos beam

If the Sonos Beam soundbar does not connect to your Wi-Fi, the first step is to reset the device, which will revert the system to default.

This is essential, considering the possibility that during the setup something may have gone wrong, and now the Sonos Beam soundbar won’t connect.

  1. Verify that your Sonos Beam is working.
  2. Then, disconnect the unit’s power cable.
  3. Locate, hold, and press the “Join” button.
  4. While holding, reconnect the power cord.
  5. Release when you see orange and white.

It’s that simple. The soundbar will now forget its connection with the app and your Wi-Fi network credentials, allowing you to start fresh.

So, let’s move on with the next step to walk you through!

Important: Be aware that resetting the Beam will erase all of its settings permanently!

2. Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi Freshly

When your Sonos Beam soundbar is reset to factory defaults, it’s time to go through the setup process from scratch.

If you haven’t got the Sonos app installed, go to the dedicated App Store for your mobile device, download and install the app.

Don’t forget to sign into your Sonos profile.

When ready, here’s how to properly connect Sonos Beam to Wi-Fi:

  1. Open the Sonos app on your Android or iOS.
  2. Go to “Speaker or Component” and sign in.
  3. Choose “Add” after the Sonos Beam pop-up.
  4. If using the S1 app go to “Set up products.”
  5. Select the Wi-Fi network you wish to pair with.
  6. Insert the password and connect your Beam.

If the setup fails, there is a high chance that the Wi-Fi is not accessible, so keep reading ahead!

3. Inspect & Troubleshoot the Wi-Fi

Have you considered the possibility that your Wi-Fi is not accessible? If not, grab your phone to attempt re-connecting and accessing the web.

If you can’t, well, this explains the reasons why your Sonos Beam’s Wi-Fi setup fails, hence you might have to consider some troubleshooting.

inspect & troubleshoot the wi-fi

Here are some of the best techniques to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi:

  1. Turn off your Wi-Fi router/modem for 60 seconds.
  2. In the meantime, reconnect the broadband cable.
  3. Then, if possible, move the router to a higher spot.
  4. Straighten up the router’s antennas facing upward.
  5. Shorten the distance between the router and the Beam.
  6. Dislocate wireless devices near the Beam or router.

When you’re ready, your smartphone should be able to connect and browse the web through the Wi-Fi you’re attempting to connect your Beam to.

If yes, but the soundbar still won’t pair, it’s possible that your network is on an unsupported Wi-Fi frequency.

4. Switch to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Frequency

If your Sonos Beam not connecting to new WiFi, we know exactly what’s wrong!

If your Wi-Fi is on the 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency, your Beam will not even detect the network in the list of available Wi-Fi’s.

This happens when your router is dual-band and you’re attempting to connect the Beam to the faster, 5 GHz Wi-Fi whereas Beam only supports 2.4 GHz frequency.

switch to 2.4 ghz wi-fi frequency

So, if your router is dual-band, you should have more than 1 Wi-Fi network, so try connecting the Beam to the other one.

So, if you have a dual-band router but you only have 1 Wi-Fi, this means that you’ve enabled an option commonly called “Smart Connect”.

This feature that many routers support, combines the 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands into one single Wi-Fi, which typically allows any device to connect.

  • Sadly, this is not always the case, as such a feature can prevent 2.4 GHz devices from pairing.

So, if we’re going to walk you through some instructions, depending on what needs to be done.

4.1 How to Disable the Smart Connect?

To access your router’s settings you’ll need a computer or laptop, connected to the Wi-Fi or via Ethernet to your router.

  • Then you must insert “https://192.168.1.1/” into the browser, and sign in via admin/admin or admin/password

If you can’t sign in, look at the sticker on the router’s bottom.

Then you need to locate and stop the “Smart Connect”, which may not be called exactly like this on all router models.

To find the exact feature name, we recommend asking Google or consulting your device’s user manual.

4.2 How to Switch the Wi-Fi Frequency?

As explained in step 4.1, you must sign into your router’s settings, navigate to the “Wireless” or “Advanced Wireless” settings, and choose the frequency for your Wi-Fi.

So, if you’re currently using only the 5 GHz Wi-Fi, ensure to enable the 2.4 GHz band or switch the network frequency.

Note: When ready, reset your Sonos Beam again, and try connecting to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

5. Reinstall the Sonos’s Mobile App

reinstall the sonos’s mobile app

If you’re using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which is accessible by other devices, but your Sonos Beam won’t connect to WiFi, the issue may be related to the mobile app.

If you haven’t updated the app in a while and you’re running an outdated build, it’s time to perform a clean reinstallation.

This will sign you out from your account, and reset any in-app settings, but will provide you with the opportunity to set up your Beam’s Wi-Fi connection from scratch.

  • To uninstall the Sonos app on Android, go to the Google Play Store → Manage apps & device → Manage → Sonos → Uninstall → Install.
  • To uninstall the Sonos app on iOS, tap and hold the app’s icon → Remove this App → App Store → Sonos → tap the Cloud + Arrow button.

When the app is reinstalled, sign into your Sonos account, and following the instructions from step #2, reconnect your Beam to the Wi-Fi.

Pro Tip: If you’re unable to, test sharing a personal hotspot from your phone, and try connecting the Sonos Beam to it.

6. Switch Wireless Network Channel

Some devices, such as your Sonos Beam soundbar, might have a hard time connecting to the Wi-Fi due to an overcrowded channel.

This mainly happens if you live in a residential block or there is an office building nearby, which has a lot of networks and ongoing Wi-Fi connections.

Hence, the Wi-Fi channel of your network could be overcrowded by other units, and some of your devices might be unable to connect.

Luckily, it’s very easy to switch to an empty channel.

Here’s exactly what you need to do:

  1. Sign into your router or modem GUI (refer to step 4.1).
  2. Go to the “Wireless” or “Advanced Wireless” settings.
  3. Beneath your Wi-Fi, there must be a drop-down menu.
  4. Find “Wi-Fi Channel” and simply, select a different one.
  5. If it doesn’t work, try another until your Beam connects.
  6. You don’t need to restart after switching your channels.

So, when your Wi-Fi network is on a different Wi-Fi channel, try connecting your Sonos Beam!

Note: If you can’t locate the exact option, look for instructions online based on the router model.

Wrapping Up

Hence, if your Sonos Beam not connecting to WiFi, start via factory reset, and verify that your Wi-Fi is accessible.

The next step would be to ensure that you use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (not 5 GHz), as well as reinstall the app or switch the Wi-Fi channel.
