VTech Baby Monitor Night Vision Not Working? (Easy Fix)

vtech baby monitor night vision not working

If your VTech baby monitor night vision is not working we’ll fix that today!

The night vision function of your VTech equipment allows for monitoring your baby over the night and receiving informed status reports consistently.

In most cases, the feature could fail to activate because of a fault with the app, brightness issues, or power supply problems.

We’ve ruled out the following solutions as the most effective:

  • Ensure your “Night Vision” feature is enabled on the parent unit.
  • Double-check if the “Brightness” feature is increased sufficiently.
  • Eliminate all of the light sources in your little one’s room and test.
  • Conduct a power cycle on both the baby monitor and the camera.
  • Restore the VTech parent unit to factory default settings and test.

Proceed with the guide for detailed instructions on how to apply each of these solutions!

How to Fix VTech Baby Monitor Night Vision Not Working?

If the night vision is activated, the IR lamp near the lens of your VTech camera will illuminate and stay solid.

Additionally, a moonlight icon will appear in the menu of your VTech monitor for as long as the feature is active.

1. Enable the “Night Vision” Manually

enable the “night vision” manually

If the night vision doesn’t appear to turn on by itself, there’s a setting in the VTech monitor’s menu, that allows you to activate the feature manually.

The night vision is typically enabled  by default, but if you’ve factory reset the monitor recently or unpaired one of the cameras, it might have switched to “Off.”

Here’s how to activate the night vision on VTech easily:

  1. Press the “MENU/SELECT” to wake up the VTech parent unit.
  2. Use the “UP” and “DOWN” arrows to select “Camera settings.”
  3. Highlight the “Night Vision” function and select “Set On/Off.”
  4. Set the feature to “On” or “Auto” and check if there’s a change.

What Does the Night Vision “Auto” Setting Do?

If you’re puzzled about exactly what the “Auto” setting of the night vision does, it allows the infrared sensor to immediately react to changes in the lightning.

If, for example, all of the curtains in your baby’s room are up for a short nap, night vision will be enabled right away.

On the contrary, setting the feature to “On” will keep the night vision active all of the time.

2. Correct the Night Vision’s Brightness

correct the night vision’s brightness

VTech also allows you to regulate the intensity of the night vision by adjusting the “Brightness” setting.

If the brightness is turned to the lowest setting, it may be hard to tell whether the feature is turned on at all.

Follow these simple steps to adjust the night vision’s brightness:

  1. Press on “MENU/SELECT” to access the monitor’s settings.
  2. Navigate to “Camera settings” and press “MENU/SELECT.”
  3. Highlight the “Night Vision” tab then navigate to “Brightness.”
  4. Use the on-screen options to increase the setting’s intensity.

Our best recommendation is to not overdo the brightness, as it could impact the live feed’s quality.

Instead, use a balanced preset (60%–70%) to keep a high-quality image of your baby throughout the night and see clearly all the time.

3. Eliminate All Room’s Light Sources

eliminate all room’s light sources

If set to “Auto,” the VTech baby monitor night vision not working will immediately occur if there’s any light source in the baby’s room.

That’s why we recommend temporarily suspending all of the lightning in the baby’s room to figure out if the night vision will activate.

To test the night vision’s functionality, all types of night lamps, central lighting, or toys that shine brighter than usual must be set to off.

Also, use the “Live” tab to check if the night vision feature responds and if not, proceed with the next step.

4. Power Reset Your VTech Equipment

If there’s still an issue with the night vision’s activation, there’s a potential fault with the power supply of either device.

So, the next step is to perform a power circulation on the baby monitor, followed by the VTech camera unit to eliminate all underlying system and hardware problems.

4.1 How to Power Cycle VTech Baby Monitor?

Unlike the VTech camera that needs to be plugged in all the time, your VTech baby monitor can operate without a cord for a short time only.

Here’s how to perform the power cycle:

  1. Connect the VTech baby monitor with the charging cord.
  2. Hold the “POWER” button on the unit for 5–10 seconds.
  3. Release the button after the display of the unit powers off.
  4. Wait for 30 seconds and reboot to test the VTech monitor.

4.2 How to Power Cycle VTech Baby Camera?

power cycle vtech baby camera

The VTech camera can be effectively discharged by suspending the unit’s power supply for a continuous amount of time.

So, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the camera’s power cord from the outlet.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds while the unit is unplugged.
  3. Next, reconnect the VTech camera to the A/C outlet.

If the baby monitor or camera is behaving unusually, as in powering off or rebooting, there’s likely to be an issue with the power supply.

Try connecting the charging or connecting the suspected device to a different outlet and check if there’s damage to the adapter.

5. Clean the VTech Camera’s Lenses

clean the vtech camera’s lenses

The night vision not working on VTech baby monitor could be a common result of dust or smudges on the camera’s lens.

So, we recommend using a microfiber cloth and a little bit of rubbing alcohol to thoroughly clean the lens of the camera.

Wait until the unit dies up entirely and check the live broadcast of your baby through the parent unit.

You should particularly keep in mind that storing the camera in an enclosed corner where ventilation is not appropriate could lead to the development of debris much quicker.

Quick Tip: Check if there’s dust or debris on the surface of the camera’s infrared sensor!

6. Reset the Parent Unit to Defaults

reset the parent unit to defaults

In case none of the solutions so far had an impact on the night vision feature’s functionality, it’s time for a factory reset.

This procedure will erase all of the parent unit’s settings, potentially addressing all faults with the night vision functionality and restoring all functions back to normal.

Here’s how to factory reset the VTech parent unit:

  1. Hold the “PAIR” key on the parent unit until you hear a beep.
  2. Release the button and wait until the beep completely stops.
  3. Proceed to press the “PAIR” key 5 times in a row and begin.
  4. Once you hear another beep sound, the parent unit will reset.

Shortly after the second beep, the VTech parent unit will power off completely and stay shut off for about 30–40 seconds.

Note: Also, ensure the device is connected with a charger throughout the entirety of the reset and complete the initial setup once the procedure is complete.
